Here you can already drive 120 km/h

Fintraffic announces that a transition to summer speed limits has begun in Finland, allowing speeds of up to 120 km/h on certain road sections during favorable conditions.

Fintraffic has recently communicated that the transition period to summer speed limits has commenced, officially implementing a speed limit of 120 km/h on specific sections of the E18 highway between Turku and Vaalimaa from April 3. This change also applies to segments of Road 1 between Turku and Lohja, as well as Road 7 between Kehรค III and Vaalimaa. During this transition, the speed limit can be increased to 120 km/h during daylight and under optimal weather conditions, while still adhering to a maximum limit of 100 km/h in darkness or adverse winter conditions.

As Finland transitions into spring, the road traffic authorities stress the importance of adaptive driving techniques as speeds increase. Fintraffic emphasizes the necessity of maintaining safe following distances and appropriate response speeds to the rapidly changing environmental factors usually observed during this season. They anticipate that drivers must remain vigilant as spring conditions can vary dramatically from winter weather, influencing road safety and driving behavior.

This shift in speed regulations reflects broader changes in traffic management aimed at enhancing driving flexibility during suitable weather. While many sections of the roadway are cleared for higher speeds, the authorities remind motorists of the need to prioritize safety over speed, especially in less predictable spring conditions. Therefore, compliance with new speed limits is crucial for maintaining road safety and preventing accidents as driving environments evolve across the country.
