Two motorways are implementing summer speed limits today - winter weather will lower the limit

Today, two motorways in Finland are introducing temporary summer speed limits, with adjustments based on weather conditions.

Today marks the introduction of temporary summer speed limits on the Ykkösvieti and Highway 7 motorways in Finland. According to a statement from Fintraffic's road traffic center, the speed limit will be raised to 120 kilometers per hour between Turku and Lohja, and between Kehä III and Vaalimaa, provided that weather conditions are favorable. However, during night-time or in winter conditions, the speed limit will be reduced to 100 kilometers per hour.

These temporary speed limits will be in effect until the official summer speed limits are enacted, which typically occur at the beginning of April, according to the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency. Last year, the transitional speed limits were initiated as early as the end of February, indicating that these adjustments are part of a larger pattern adapting to changing weather conditions in Finland.

Fintraffic has also emphasized the importance of maintaining safe driving practices during this transition. They remind drivers to adhere to appropriate following distances and adjust their speed according to the prevailing traffic conditions. This shift to summer speed limits reflects Finland's approach in balancing road safety with the seasonal changes in driving conditions.
