The Lithuanian government approved a plan to allocate 500 million euros from the Defense Fund for infantry fighting vehicles this year.
The Lithuanian government has approved a significant allocation of funds from the Defense Fund, totaling 500 million euros for the purchase of infantry fighting vehicles, which are essential for enhancing the capabilities of the national division. This decision is part of a broader initiative to strengthen Lithuania's defense posture amid growing regional security concerns. The allocation is a portion of the overall 710 million euros available in the Defense Fund for this year, and it reflects the government's commitment to improving military readiness and operational capabilities.
Additionally, 49 million euros will be dedicated to upgrading the infrastructure at the Rūdninkai training ground to support the activities of the NATO brigade led by Germany. Other important allocations include 34.7 million euros for counter-mobility measures, which involve funding various engineering solutions such as mines and obstacles, to enhance the defensive capabilities of the Lithuanian army. The distribution of these funds indicates a strategic prioritization of military readiness and infrastructure development as part of Lithuania's defense strategy.
Moreover, 89 million euros will be set aside for military mobility and dual-use transport infrastructure, which includes the development of access roads to the Pabradė and Rūdninkai training sites. Furthermore, the Ministry of the Interior will receive 35 million euros to expand the shelter infrastructure, boost crisis management efforts, and enhance the national civil protection system. This comprehensive funding plan underlines the Lithuanian government's proactive approach to security and defense development in response to ongoing geopolitical challenges.
