Lithuania has allocated an additional 220 million euros for Ukraine's defense this year, focusing on air defense and drone support during a NATO meeting.
During a NATO defense ministers' meeting in Brussels, Lithuania's Minister of National Defence mentioned that the country has reserved an additional 220 million euros to support Ukraine this year, emphasizing the urgent needs for air defense and drone capabilities. The total military assistance from Lithuania has surpassed 1 billion US dollars, demonstrating the nation's commitment to Ukraine's defense amidst ongoing conflict.
The allocated funds will specifically target three main priorities: air defense, Ukrainian-made drones, and long-range artillery shells. The minister highlighted Lithuania’s engagement in strengthening Ukraine's defense industrial capacity, asserting that direct bilateral investments are essential in bolstering Ukraine’s military capabilities. This approach illustrates Lithuania's proactive stance in international defense collaboration and support for Ukraine's sovereignty.
Additionally, the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence announced plans to further finance the production of long-range strike drones, indicating a commitment of 32 million euros to the drone manufacturing sector to assist the Ukrainian armed forces. This substantial financial backing reaffirms Lithuania's ongoing support as the geopolitical climate in Eastern Europe continues to evolve rapidly, underlining the importance of NATO's solidarity in defending member and partner states.
