Fire Department: The first 5 new water transport vehicles with a capacity of 20,000 liters have joined the fleet

The Greek Fire Department has received five new water-carrying vehicles with a capacity of 20,000 liters as part of a fleet enhancement initiative.

On Tuesday, a ceremony was held at the facilities of the Fire Material Management Service in Mandra, Attica, where five new fire trucks, each capable of carrying 20,000 liters of water, were officially handed over to the Greek Fire Department. Present at the handover were high-ranking officials from the Fire Department including Deputy Chief Anastasius Pappas, Operations Branch Chief Alexandros Mavraganis, Attica Regional Fire Command Chief Vasileios Zafeiris, and the Chief of the Fire Material Management Service Dimitrios Tselios. This delivery marks the first batch of five vehicles out of a total of fifteen planned to enhance the operational capabilities of the fire service.

The acquisition of these vehicles is part of a broader initiative to strengthen the fleet of ground resources available to the Greek Fire Department. The project is funded under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan 'Greece 2.0', which is backed by the European Union through the NextGenerationEU program. This initiative aims to improve the country's disaster response capabilities and ensure better protection against fires, which have been a significant concern in the region due to climate change.

The introduction of these new vehicles is particularly timely given the increasing frequency and severity of wildfires in Greece. With the added capacity of 20,000 liters per vehicle, the Fire Department will be better equipped to tackle large-scale fires effectively and efficiently. This development not only reinforces the operational power of the Fire Department but also demonstrates the government's commitment to enhancing public safety through improved disaster management resources.
