Water level in the Šešupė river rises sharply

The water level in the Šešupė river increased by 79 cm over the course of a day, but the situation is not critical according to local officials.

In recent reports from Kudirkos Naumiestis, Lithuania, the water level in the Šešupė river has seen a significant rise of 79 cm within just one day. Edvardas Belevičius, the local senior official, confirmed that while the rise is notable, it is not alarming. He indicated that the water had only risen by two inches above normal levels and assured the community that there is no cause for panic as the current flow is weak and ice drift has not yet begun.

Belevičius further noted that in the surrounding fields, the snow has already melted considerably, revealing the arable land beneath. This indicates a transition in the local climate as winter progresses, potentially impacting local agriculture and water management strategies. The depth of the river at the measuring station currently stands at 249 cm, compared to historical measurements that have peaked at 675 cm.

Overall, while the increase in water level is worth monitoring, local officials maintain that the situation is manageable and do not foresee significant flooding risks at this time. This information could be vital for local farmers and residents who rely on the river for irrigation and other needs.
