Rail Baltic builders have started clearing the area for the Pärnu passenger terminal
Builders for Rail Baltic have initiated clearing work for the planned passenger terminal in Pärnu, with further construction anticipated next year.
Rail Baltic builders have commenced vegetation clearing in the future area of the Pärnu passenger terminal, marking a significant step in the development of this major transportation project. The terminal's construction tender is projected to be announced during the summer, and the actual construction work is scheduled to begin next year. As part of these initial steps, the project team aims to carefully manage the clearing process to minimize ecological impact while preparing the site for future development.
The clearing work is taking place over a 2.5-kilometer stretch from the Papiniidu bridge to the Paide highway, led by project manager Märt Maadla from Rail Baltic Estonia. Maadla emphasized an environmentally sensitive approach by ensuring that as few trees as possible will be removed, retaining green areas and allowing for the relocation of certain trees identified by dendrological surveys. This indicates a commitment to balancing infrastructure development with ecological preservation.
While access to the site remains open for the public, safety precautions have been advised to keep distances from operating machinery during the clearing. The planned construction is part of a larger vision for the Rail Baltic project, which seeks to enhance connectivity in the region, fostering economic development and providing better transportation linkages within the Baltic States.
