The new building of Tõnismäe State Gymnasium is expected to be completed by 2030
The Estonian Ministry of Education plans to commence operations in a new building for Tõnismäe State Gymnasium in Tallinn by 2030, with construction set to start by 2028.
The Estonian Ministry of Education has announced plans to build a new facility for the Tõnismäe State Gymnasium, set to be located next to the National Library of Estonia on Endla Street. The government aims to commence educational operations in this new building by 2030, with construction expected to begin no later than 2028. This new development has been in the planning stages since the establishment of the school, which has been temporarily operating at its current location on Tõnismäe Street.
According to the Ministry, the detailed planning for the new building has been approved, and efforts are underway to obtain the necessary construction permit. The facility will replace existing structures on a plot that currently includes a parking area and a complex housing educational services for Ukrainian children, namely the Freedom School. Plans are also in place to relocate the Freedom School to ensure that educational services remain uninterrupted during the construction of the new building.
Once completed, the Tõnismäe State Gymnasium will finally have a permanent home that has been long awaited since the school's inception. This initiative reflects the government's commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure in Tallinn and accommodating the growing student population, thereby contributing to the modernization of educational facilities in the region.
