Discriminatory Remarks by Osaka City Officials in Official Vehicle; Check of 530 Dashcam Records Planned

Osaka City plans to check recordings from 530 official vehicle dashcams after officials made discriminatory remarks during work hours.

On April 4, the Osaka City government announced it would review recordings from approximately 530 dashcams installed in official vehicles due to a series of incidents where city officials made discriminatory remarks during work hours. The recordings, totaling about 3,000 hours, are being checked as part of an effort to prevent further incidents. This action follows a specific incident on February 3, when a construction bureau employee made a derogatory comment referring to a specific locality, indicating that he disliked passing through 'undesirable areas' during his high school years. The remarks were revealed after a colleague reported them to a supervisor. The involved employee later acknowledged his comments, stating that they were thoughtless and expressed regret for the insensitivity of his words.
