Municipality has reported waste company after fire

A municipality in Denmark has lodged a police complaint against a waste company following two fires within a month at the company's facility.

The flames from the scrap fire that occurred on Sunday in Frederiksværk have been extinguished, but it raises concerns over safety at Denova Recycling facilities. This incident is one of two significant fires reported by the company within a month. Halsnæs Municipality has officially reported Denova Recycling to the police for the first fire, which occurred on February 1st, and is still investigating the second incident from Sunday.

Martin Kjellberg Ishøy, the communication leader at Halsnæs Municipality, confirmed the police complaint but stated that the municipality cannot provide further details concerning the reasons behind it. The police are currently investigating whether the second fire will also lead to a police report, reflecting ongoing concerns about safety and compliance in waste management. Denova Recycling, represented by their communications officer Lene Bilde Pedersen, acknowledged the police complaint but declined to comment further, as they await clarification on the specific allegations.

This situation raises important questions regarding safety protocols in waste management facilities, especially after multiple incidents. The outcomes of the police investigations may lead to stricter regulations or repercussions for Denova Recycling and could potentially impact public perception of waste disposal practices in the region.
