Fire in Frederiksværk is completely extinguished

A significant fire at the DeNova Recycling waste sorting company in Frederiksværk has been fully extinguished after causing health-harming smoke to spread over the city.

A major fire broke out at DeNova Recycling, a waste sorting company in Frederiksværk, Denmark, sending harmful smoke across the city for much of the day. The smoke was so severe that local establishments including the town hall, library, several daycare centers, and a private school had to close, and residents were advised to stay indoors. The local emergency services faced a substantial challenge but managed to control the fire effectively.

For the first time, the emergency services in Frederiksborg deployed a helicopter to assist in extinguishing the fire, which proved to be a highly effective tool. According to Johnny Leth Ochwatt, the fire response leader at Frederiksborg Brand og Redning, the helicopter was able to drop 23 loads of 2,000 liters of water each directly over the fire, which quickly helped to suppress the flames. The initial air assault allowed the fire crews on the ground to use hoses to finish off the remaining hotspots.

With the flames finally out, local authorities indicated that life could return to normal in Frederiksværk. The effective response to the fire highlights the importance of innovative firefighting techniques and preparedness in handling significant emergencies, especially those that threaten public health and local infrastructure.
