INEC elevates 82 as directors, promotes 2,257 others
The Independent National Electoral Commission in Nigeria has announced the promotion of 2,339 personnel, highlighting its dedication to career advancement and institutional stability.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nigeria has completed its 2025 Senior Staff Promotion Exercise, affecting a total of 2,339 personnel. This significant move reflects INEC's ongoing commitment to enhance career progression, ensure institutional continuity, and bolster organizational stability. The commission convened a meeting on February 26, 2026, where these promotions were sanctioned, as relayed in a recent statement by Mrs. Victoria Eta-Messi.
Among those promoted, 82 Chief Officers at Grade Levels 14 and 15 were elevated to the position of Assistant Directors. In addition, 91 Assistant Directors who were on Grade Levels 15 and 16 advanced to Deputy Directors. Furthermore, at the directorate level, 45 deputy directors have been promoted to directors, with 18 continuing in active service and 27 expected to retire shortly after their new appointments, adhering to public service regulations. This exercise highlights the systematic approach INEC is taking towards staff development and retention of experienced personnel.
The promotion also included 2,121 intermediate officers spanning Grade Levels 07 to 13 across various departments within the commission. This comprehensive promotion strategy indicates INEC’s foundational ethos of fostering a robust workforce capable of efficiently managing electoral processes, thereby reinforcing the integrity and reliability of Nigeria’s electoral system.
