EU assists with evacuations
The EU is assisting Italy, Austria, and Slovakia in repatriating citizens stranded in the Middle East due to the ongoing conflict.
The European Union has initiated assistance for Italy, Austria, and Slovakia to help evacuate their citizens who are currently stranded in the Middle East amid the ongoing conflict. According to EU crisis management commissioner Hadja Lahbib, these three countries were the first to seek help from Brussels to finance repatriation flights from the region. This shows a proactive approach by the EU to support its member states during times of crisis.
So far, Slovakia has successfully organized two flights planned for the following day to bring their citizens back home. Austria has requested spots for 90 passengers, while Italy is currently assessing the best methods to evacuate its citizens. This coordinated effort exemplifies how EU member states can work together in times of need, ensuring the safety and return of their nationals.
However, the situation remains complicated for Swedish citizens stuck in Dubai and Doha due to canceled flights. The Swedish Foreign Ministry has indicated no current possibilities for their evacuation, raising concerns for those affected. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has stated that the government is continuously evaluating the situation and exploring available options to assist those stranded, underscoring the ongoing nature of the crisis and the need for collaborative efforts as it unfolds.
