Works on Washington Luís Highway cause 8 km of congestion in the interior of SP, says police

Roadworks on Washington Luís Highway have created an 8-kilometer traffic jam in São Paulo state.

The ongoing roadworks on Washington Luís Highway (SP-310) have led to significant traffic congestion, with reports indicating delays of at least eight kilometers. This traffic situation affects the stretch between São José do Rio Preto and Mirassol, as relayed by the State Highway Police. The congestion has primarily been caused by the implementation of third lanes, which entered a new phase as of Monday, and has restricted access in certain areas of the highway.

Motorists traveling through the affected area have faced considerable slowdowns due to lane closures, which are specifically occurring between kilometer markers 444+750 and 442. These strategic interferences affect both directions of traffic, particularly near the viaduct where the railway passes under the highway, as well as close to the airport access point. The contractor responsible for the highway, Ecovias Noroeste Paulista, has alerted travelers that most of the construction work will be conducted during peak hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to minimize disruption where possible.

The works are part of a broader initiative to upgrade the highway, ensuring better traffic flow and safety for the thousands of vehicles that rely on this route. However, these necessary improvements have led to immediate inconveniences for drivers who must navigate the delays. Authorities recommend that travelers remain informed about the conditions and consider alternative routes during construction hours to avoid being stuck in traffic.
