Mancha Alviverde will pay R$ 2 million in compensation to the family of a Cruzeiro fan killed in an ambush in SP
Mancha Alviverde has agreed to pay R$ 2 million to the family of José Victor Miranda, a Cruzeiro fan killed during a violent ambush in São Paulo.
Mancha Alviverde, the organized fan group of Palmeiras, has reached a settlement with the Public Ministry of São Paulo, agreeing to pay a compensation of at least R$ 2 million to the family of José Victor Miranda, who was tragically killed at the age of 30 during an ambush by Palmeiras supporters on the Fernão Dias highway in Mairiporã, São Paulo, in October 2024. This incident took place when Cruzeiro fans were returning home from a match in the Brazilian Championship, highlighting the potential for violence surrounding football rivalries in Brazil.
The agreement was facilitated by the Mairiporã Public Prosecutor's Office and GAECO, the Special Action Group Against Organized Crime. In addition to the financial compensation, the organized fan club has taken responsibility for the consequences of the ambush, which also left 15 other Cruzeiro fans injured and resulted in significant damages, including the destruction of a bus. This settlement underscores the authorities' efforts to combat violence related to football in Brazil, aiming to hold fan groups accountable for their actions.
As part of the conditions for maintaining their activities and returning to football stadiums, this organized fan group must adhere to unprecedented transparency obligations. They are required to provide regular updates on their members, reflecting a broader initiative to curb violence in football within the country. This case serves as a crucial example of the steps being taken towards ensuring safety and accountability among football fans in Brazil, as the nation grapples with its sporting culture's darker aspects.
