The organized fan group Mancha Alviverde has agreed to pay R$ 2 million for damages from an attack on Cruzeiro fans in Brazil.
The organized fan group Mancha Alviverde has acknowledged its civil responsibility for the damages caused during an ambush against Cruzeiro fans in October 2024. This agreement, formalized in a Terms of Adjustment of Conduct (TAC) as approved by the São Paulo Public Ministry's higher council, outlines a minimum indemnity payment of R$ 2 million, with half designated for victims.
The violent incident took place on October 27, 2024, on the Fernão Dias highway, near Mairiporã, São Paulo, resulting in the death of fan José Victor Miranda and injuries to over 20 others. More than a hundred organized supporters were implicated in planning the attack, according to the prosecution, highlighting the severe issue of fan violence in Brazilian football.
The settlement mediated by the justice's prosecution office aims to address the responsible parties while also setting a precedent for accountability among organized fan groups. The case illustrates ongoing challenges faced by Brazilian authorities in curbing violent behavior associated with football clubs, raising questions about the effectiveness of existing measures and the necessity for further reforms to ensure fan safety during matches and events.
