Blood Hospital in Manaus should only open after correcting failures, advises TCE

The Amazonas State Court of Accounts has recommended that the Blood Hospital in Manaus only inaugurates after resolving identified issues and risks from a technical inspection.

The Amazonas State Court of Accounts (TCE-AM) has advised that the Blood Hospital of Hemoam in Manaus should not open until identified deficiencies and risks from a recent inspection are addressed. Originally scheduled to launch on a Saturday, with services set to commence on Sunday, the opening is now delayed as the TCE-AM outlined several critical areas needing remediation, including management, planning, contracts, and infrastructure.

During a technical assessment conducted by the Blitz TCE team, several 'relevant findings' were reported that could jeopardize the operational readiness of the hospital. Consequently, the TCE-AM has submitted its findings to the State Health Secretariat (SES-AM), recommending that the inauguration of the Hemoam be contingent upon the rectification of these highlighted issues. The previous opening date was established during a meeting held a few weeks prior, reflecting an urgency to commence operations amid various administrative challenges.

This development raises significant concerns about the readiness and safety of healthcare facilities operating under such conditions, especially amidst ongoing demands for increasing healthcare services in the region. The recommendations from the TCE-AM signify a response to public health commitment, ensuring that all necessary procedures and standards are met before any public services begin at the facility.
