"Protein Design with AI" David Baker, 2024 Nobel Laureate, Coming to Yonsei University in April

Renowned scientists, including 2024 Nobel Chemistry laureate David Baker, will gather at Yonsei University for the 'Yonsei-IBS Nobel Forum' focusing on AI, robotics, and nanomedicine innovations.

Yonsei University and the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) are celebrating the 10th anniversary of their Nano-Medicine Research Center by hosting the 'Yonsei-IBS Nobel Forum' on April 6, inviting distinguished Nobel Prize winners. Among the speakers will be David Baker, a recipient of the 2024 Nobel Chemistry Prize for his work in protein design using artificial intelligence, and Randy Schekman, who won the 2013 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for elucidating mechanisms of intracellular transport. Their joint participation is expected to symbolize generational scientific achievement and vision.

David Baker is recognized for leading groundbreaking research in AI-based protein design and vaccine development, notably creating the first AI-based vaccine in collaboration with SK bioscience. His first visit to Korea following his Nobel win is significant as it highlights international collaboration in science and technology. Randy Schekman, Baker's doctoral advisor and a distinguished professor at Yonsei University, brings added relevance to the event as they share the stage for advancements in the field of cellular biology.

The forum will also include other prominent researchers in AI, robotics, and nanomedicine, promoting interdisciplinary discussions aimed at shaping future research directions. This initiative not only celebrates scientific milestones but also fosters collaboration between academia and industry, demonstrating the vital role of innovative research in addressing global health challenges.
