The God’s Body Church in Kaunas, which dates back to the 17th century, has undergone extensive modifications since 1965 when it was converted into a cinema theater, resulting in significant interior destruction and the installation of concrete structures that divided the space. The planned renovation project, with a budget of approximately 1.55 million euros, including a substantial loan from the national development bank ILTE, seeks to remove these modern alterations and restore the church to its historical state. The project aims to return the building to its former glory while making it accessible to the public and preserving its architectural integrity.

Kęstutis Patašius, an economist from the Kaunas Archdiocese Curia, emphasizes the necessity of this renovation. He mentions that prior to this initiative, many areas within the church were inaccessible to visitors due to poor technical conditions, which limited the possibilities for the building to be fully opened to the public. Issues such as moisture damage and the lack of essential engineering systems have plagued the church, contributing to its deteriorating state. This project not only aims to improve the condition of the building but also to ensure that it is accommodating to individuals with disabilities, thereby enhancing its usability as a cultural site.
