AMMU, ten years and two million cannoli
AMMU, a Sicilian pastry shop in Milan, celebrates its ten-year anniversary with over two million cannoli served, evolving from a temporary concept to a successful urban format.
On March 8, 2016, against the backdrop of Milan's post-Expo atmosphere, a small Sicilian laboratory named AMMU established itself in the city, launching a temporary store aimed at introducing the iconic Sicilian cannolo to Milanese residents. Marking International Women's Day, AMMU's claim 'Sweetness is Woman' highlighted the brand's commitment to offering fresh, handcrafted cannoli, filled to order right in front of the customer, avoiding the soggy texture that often plagues this beloved dessert. Over the six months of the Expo, they successfully served more than 130,000 cannoli.
Fast forward to March 8, 2026, AMMU will have served over two million cannoli in Milan alone. The brand has grown significantly, moving beyond its initial concept to operating three shops in Milan and expanding to additional locations in Campania and Palma de Mallorca. This transformation from a simple concept into a replicable business model is a testament to the demand for high-quality, freshly made Italian desserts and showcases how entrepreneurship can thrive within a cultural context.
AMMU’s success story not only reflects a gastronomical innovation but also embodies a cultural shift, as it has become part of the culinary landscape in Milan. The theater of filling cannoli in front of customers has turned the dessert experience into an interactive one, enhancing its appeal. As AMMU continues to grow, it remains a prime example of how traditional Italian cuisine can adapt and flourish in a modern urban environment, prioritizing quality and customer engagement in an increasingly competitive market.
