Icy roads and fog hinder driving in many areas
Driving conditions on major roads in Latvia are hindered by ice and fog, particularly in certain regions.
On Tuesday morning, driving conditions in Latvia are challenging due to ice and fog on the country's major roads, as reported by VSIA "Latvijas valsts ceΔΌi". The worst driving conditions are noted in the western part of Kurzeme, the central region of Vidzeme, and the southern part of Latgale, around the city of Daugavpils, where ice accumulation is significant. In contrast, regions like Zemgale, central Latgale, and along the Tallinn highway report primarily satisfactory driving conditions, leading to a mixed experience for motorists across the country. To address the hazardous conditions, 87 winter maintenance vehicles have been deployed to treat the slippery road sections this morning. The efforts aim to ensure safer travel for drivers during this period of poor visibility and icy surfaces. Authorities encourage caution for all motorists and remind them to adjust their driving behaviors according to the treacherous weather conditions. The situation underlines the impact of seasonal weather on travel in Latvia, especially as winter conditions become more prevalent. It reflects a broader challenge faced by many countries during this time of year, emphasizing the need for preparedness and a proactive approach to maintaining road safety as the winter progresses.
