VSAT: no illegal migrants recorded for the fourth day
Latvian border officials turned back five foreigners, while Polish border services reported no recorded migrants on Sunday, marking a continued trend of low illegal crossings in Lithuania.
For the fourth consecutive day, Lithuania has reported no illegal migrants crossing its borders, according to the State Border Guard Service (VSAT). This follows a period in which the influx of migrants from Belarus has significantly slowed compared to last year, when over 1,600 unauthorized entries were recorded. The current year has seen only 37 illegal entries so far, highlighting a clear decrease in migration attempts.
Meanwhile, Latvian border officials turned away five foreigners at their borders on the same day, and Polish authorities also confirmed that no migrants were recorded. The data indicates a stringent border control response among the Baltic states, aimed at managing the migrant crisis that erupted in 2021. Since then, over 24,600 migrants have been denied entry into Lithuania due to the ongoing crisis attributed to the Belarusian government’s actions.
The trend marks a significant shift in the region's migration dynamics, as Western nations have blamed the regime in Minsk for orchestrating the crisis by facilitating illegal crossings into the EU. The failure to record migrants in recent days suggests that border control measures may be effectively deterring unauthorized entries, although the situation remains delicate as geopolitical tensions persist in Eastern Europe.
