VSAT: No Illegal Migrants Recorded at the Belarusian Border for the Third Day
No illegal migrants have been recorded at the Belarusian border for three consecutive days by Lithuania and neighboring borders with Latvia and Poland.
For the third day in a row, border authorities in Lithuania, Latvia, and Poland have reported no illegal migrants attempting to cross from Belarus into their territories. Last year, Lithuanian authorities managed to prevent over 1,600 individuals from crossing into the country illegally, while this year the figure stands at only 37. This significant decrease highlights the current effectiveness of border security measures in the region.
Since the onset of the migration crisis triggered by Belarus in 2021, Lithuania has denied entry to a total of 24,600 illegal migrants. This influx of migrants into Eastern European Union countries had been attributed to the actions of the Minsk regime, which Western nations have accused of orchestrating the crisis as a means of destabilizing neighboring countries. The low numbers recorded in the past days suggest a possible change in the migration patterns or a response to the stricter border controls enforced by these countries.
The situation at the border remains closely monitored, with officials emphasizing their commitment to maintaining security and preventing illegal crossings. The international community continues to watch closely, as changes in migration trends could impact regional stability and relations with Belarus. This ongoing situation reflects broader geopolitical tensions in the area related to migration and border security.
