No illegal migrants recorded at the border with Belarus

This article reports that no illegal migrants have crossed into Lithuania from Belarus recently, following ongoing border control measures.

According to data reported, Latvian border guards turned back five migrants on Monday, while Polish authorities reported no instances of migrants crossing on Sunday. This reflects the ongoing effectiveness of border patrol operations in the region as they manage the influx of migrants attempting to enter the European Union from Belarus. The last recorded attempt by illegal migrants to cross into Lithuania occurred last week when two individuals were denied entry.

This year, Lithuania has seen a total of 37 illegal migrants denied entry, signifying a sharp decrease compared to last year's statistics, where there were over 1,600 attempts to cross the border illegally from Belarus, and the year before that in 2021, a figure of 1,002 was noted. This decline highlights the effectiveness of the measures taken by the Lithuanian government and its border agencies to maintain security and control at the borders amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions.

The surge of migrants attempting to enter Eastern EU countries from Belarus began in 2021, and Western nations have accused the government in Minsk of orchestrating this migration flow as a means of hybrid warfare against the EU. This situation poses significant challenges for border management and raises questions about the humanitarian conditions faced by migrants. The stability of the eastern EU borders is critical to both Belarusian domestic politics and wider European security.
