A new aerospace industry base worth 300 billion won will be established in Muju, Jeonbuk

A state-of-the-art aerospace industry base focusing on next-generation guided weapons and space launch vehicle engines is set to be established in Muju, Jeonbuk, generating high expectations in the region.

A new aerospace industry base, expected to contribute significantly to the local economy, will be built in Muju, Jeonbuk, where next-generation guided weapons and space launch vehicle engines will be produced. Jeonbuk Province recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Hyundai Rotem and Muju County for the establishment of this production facility, which will encompass an area of over 76,000 square meters by 2034, with an investment exceeding 300 billion won.

This facility aims to develop and produce advanced technologies, including scramjet engines that operate at supersonic speeds. These engines are considered a strategic technology that could change the dynamics of future warfare, emphasizing their importance to national defense. The Muju aerospace production base is expected to become a critical hub for R&D, encompassing everything from prototype creation to testing and mass production, thereby enhancing Korea's self-reliance in aerospace technologies.

Local officials, including Muju County Mayor Hwang In-hong, expressed optimism about the agreement, noting that it represents a significant opportunity for economic development in a region previously identified as industrially vulnerable. The establishment of this high-tech R&D center not only promises to create quality jobs but also encourages the relocation of supporting industries, further stimulating the local economy and reducing the risk of population decline in the area.
