[Editorial] Hyundai's 9 trillion investment in Saemangeum should serve as a catalyst for balanced regional development

Hyundai Group has committed to a 9 trillion won investment in Saemangeum, Jeollabuk-do, to establish an AI data center and a robot manufacturing plant, amidst challenges of regional developmental stagnation.

Hyundai Group has entered into an investment agreement with the South Korean government and Jeollabuk-do, pledging a 9 trillion won investment over five years in Saemangeum. This investment encompasses the establishment of an AI data center worth 5.8 trillion won, a 400 billion won robot manufacturing and parts cluster, a 1 trillion won water electrolysis plant, and a 400 billion won AI hydrogen city. As part of a larger 125.2 trillion won domestic investment plan unveiled last year, this project is projected to generate significant economic impact, including around 16 trillion won in economic effects and creating approximately 71,000 jobs.
