Motta meets Alckmin and Chamber approves project that expands credit for exports

The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies approved a project to expand export credit for Brazilian companies and regulate the FGCE to enhance state support for exports.

On Monday, the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies approved a significant project aimed at expanding export credit for Brazilian enterprises, specifically regulating the Fundo Garantidor de Operações de Comércio Exterior (FGCE). This project introduces new funding sources and enhances the possibilities of governmental support for exports. The proposal allows for export financing operations related to trade agreements that Brazil is part of, including the recently ratified Mercosur-European Union trade pact, which is scheduled for Senate review this week.

In addition to export financing, the project also covers domestic aviation sector operations and funds for binational or multinational projects within Brazil. The inclusion of projects related to civil aviation was contested by the Novo party, which opposed the measure. However, despite their attempts to amend the text, the provisions were retained, ensuring that the project stays intact. The proposal highlights the Brazilian government's commitment to bolster export potential in response to international market dynamics.

Furthermore, the project places the responsibility on the federal government for covering the guarantees issued by the FGCE, ensuring that any obligations will be honored regardless of the fund's asset status. This decision reflects a strategic move by the Brazilian government to not only stimulate exports but to also strengthen international economic relations through enhanced support mechanisms. The ongoing discourse in the Senate will be pivotal in shaping the final implementation of these export credit enhancements.
