Five suspected cultists, robbers arrested in Delta
Five individuals suspected of cultism and armed robbery have been arrested by the Delta State Police in Nigeria during operations in Warri, Ughelli, and Sapele.
In Delta State, Nigeria, police have apprehended five suspected cultists and armed robbers through a series of intelligence-led operations conducted in key areas such as Warri, Ughelli, and Sapele. These operations, carried out by the CP-Special Assignment Team and Quick Response Squad, resulted in the recovery of multiple firearms, including a locally fabricated double-barrel gun, a pump-action gun, a fabricated Beretta pistol, along with 27 live cartridges.
The arrests were particularly notable during a raid in the Ekredjebor area of Ughelli, where police officers captured an individual identified as Oghenemaro Festus. He was found in possession of a pump-action gun loaded with cartridges and is believed to be linked to a series of house-to-house robberies that have raised concerns among residents in the region. The statement from the Commandβs Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, has highlighted the efforts being made to address the growing issue of armed robbery and cult-related activities in Delta State.
Such proactive police action signals a heightened response to violent crime and underscores the continuing challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining peace and security in Delta State, especially with regards to violent cultism, which remains a significant concern in many regions of Nigeria. The arrests may not only disrupt ongoing criminal activities but also encourage community engagement in the fight against insecurity.
