Security operatives arrest community youth leader, others for cultism in Edo

In Edo State, Nigeria, security forces have arrested a youth leader linked to a cult group amid a broader crackdown on criminal activities following recent violence.

In a significant crackdown on cultism in Edo State, Nigeria, the Special Security Squad has arrested Innocent Okunozee, the youth leader known as Okiaghele of the Obazagbon Community. Officials have identified him as a member of the notorious Black Axe confraternity, which has been linked to various criminal activities, including recent murders in the area. The arrest is part of a wider effort by the state government to enhance security and restore peace in communities affected by violence from rival cult groups.

In a statement to Governor Monday Okpebholo, the Chief Press Secretary, Patrick Ebojele, announced that three additional youth leaders from neighboring communities have been issued a seven-day ultimatum to report to authorities. These leaders are from the Obagie, Ofumwengbe, and Ara communities, indicating a concerted effort by the Special Security Squad to dismantle cult networks that have become increasingly active and violent in Edo State.

The operation led by the team, under the guidance of the Principal Security Officer to the Governor, included a series of raids that resulted in multiple arrests of suspected cultists in the Amagba and Obagie Communities. The ongoing initiative reflects the government's proactive stance against rampant cultism, aiming to curb the influence of these groups and restore safety for residents.
