75-Year-Old Man Approved for University Admission for the 2nd Time: 'It’s Never Too Late to Study'
A 75-year-old man from Brazil celebrates his acceptance into university for the second time, emphasizing the importance of education at any age.
João José de Carvalho, affectionately known as 'Seu Janjão', has shown that age is no barrier to education as he has been accepted into the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI) for the second time. After completing his studies at the Centro Estadual de Tempo Integral (Ceti) Reunida de Patos in Patos do Piauí, he had to pause his educational pursuits due to physical limitations and the distance between his home and the university. Despite these challenges, he remains motivated and excited for this new opportunity to pursue his degree.
Seu Janjão's journey reflects a commitment to lifelong learning, and he hopes to inspire his family, including his five grandchildren, by completing his education. He passionately believes that education shapes one's character, stating, "For me, a man is what education makes of him. It’s never too late to study. Knowledge is something we carry for life; it is what makes us free citizens." His story is a reminder that the pursuit of knowledge can enrich lives at any stage.
In addition to Seu Janjão's personal triumph, his acceptance contributes to the rising numbers of students from the Education for Young Adults (EJA) program who are achieving success in the Brazilian higher education system. In 2026, as part of a broader initiative, 186 adult education students were accepted into the national student entrance exam (SISU). This trend not only emphasizes the accessibility of higher education for non-traditional students but also showcases the vital role of adult education in community empowerment and personal development.
