Lula's government announces credit line for companies affected by rain in MG

The Brazilian government has announced a new credit line to support companies affected by heavy rains in Minas Gerais, following a similar program from 2024.

The Brazilian Minister of Civil Affairs, Rui Costa, announced a new credit line aimed at supporting businesses and shops impacted by heavy rains in Minas Gerais on Monday. This initiative, according to the federal government, is modeled after the assistance given during the natural disaster in Rio Grande do Sul back in 2024. The government hopes to mitigate the economic damage caused by these recent weather events through this financial support.

In addition to aiding businesses, the program will also facilitate financing for the purchase of homes through a supported buying method. This approach involves registering sellers of real estate with the Caixa Econômica Federal, which will help align the housing needs of displaced individuals with available properties. The minister estimates that the total value of the credit line will be less than R$ 1 billion, and further details will be provided later this week regarding the specifics and total amounts of the assistance available.

According to the government's assessments, the two cities most affected by the rains, Juiz de Fora and Ubá, have different demands. The primary concern in Juiz de Fora was the reconstruction of houses, while Ubá had more pressing needs related to other forms of assistance. By targeting specific needs of the communities impacted, the government aims to provide effective support to those affected by the adverse weather conditions.
