FRSC audits Anambra road after four crashes kill 11

The Federal Road Safety Corps in Nigeria has audited a dangerous road in Anambra after four crashes claimed the lives of 11 people in one month.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has conducted a road audit at a notorious accident black spot in Anambra State, specifically at Agulu Lake in Anaocha Local Government Area, after a series of tragic accidents resulted in the deaths of 11 individuals over the past month. The audit was led by Sector Commander Bridget Asekhauno and aimed to assess the safety measures in place as well as the contributing factors to these fatal incidents.

The latest horrific accident occurred late on Friday, involving a multiple-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of four women and left nine others injured. Eyewitness accounts indicated that these victims were returning from a burial ceremony when their driver lost control while navigating a steep descent towards a narrow bridge, ultimately leading to the collision. The increasing frequency of accidents at this location has raised concerns among local residents and officials alike.

In response to these tragedies, the joint audit team, which included members from the Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency and the Ministry of Works, along with community leaders, was formed to address road safety issues in the area. This initiative aims to identify dangerous aspects of the road infrastructure and implement necessary changes to prevent further loss of life, highlighting the critical importance of road safety measures and community involvement in roadway management.
