Law professor accused of rape and other crimes against 10 women in RS is arrested
A law professor and lawyer, Conrado Paulino da Rosa, was arrested in Porto Alegre after being accused of various crimes against ten women, including rape and psychological violence.
Conrado Paulino da Rosa, a law professor and attorney, was arrested on Monday in Porto Alegre following serious allegations made by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Rio Grande do Sul. The charges include a range of offenses, specifically focusing on twelve crimes committed against ten women, which involve rape, statutory rape, psychological violence, and unlawful imprisonment. The arrest was sanctioned by the stateβs Court of Justice after a preventive detention request was made by the prosecutor's office.
This investigation followed three months of police inquiry, during which comprehensive testimonies were gathered from eighteen victims and sixteen witnesses. Reports indicate that instances of sexual abuse purportedly occurred over an extended timeframe, from 2013 to 2025, with Conrado reportedly having been indicted for sexual offenses on twenty-four separate occasions according to the ongoing investigations. The troubling pattern of allegations highlights systemic issues regarding abuse and the need for more robust protective measures for potential victims.
In response to the accusations, Conrado's defense lawyer, Fernanda Osorio, indicated that they have not yet had the opportunity to review the content of the formal charges. This raises concerns about the transparency of legal proceedings, particularly when navigating such sensitive matters. As the case unfolds, it is likely to garner significant public and media attention, especially regarding the societal implications of the abuse of power in educational and professional settings, and the effectiveness of the judicial response to such grave allegations.
