Lawyer arrested for the rape of 2 minors in Rio; police say he lured victims with snacks
A university professor and lawyer was arrested for the sexual abuse of minors and for recording the abuse, allegedly luring victims with food.
A shocking case has emerged in Rio de Janeiro, where a university professor and lawyer, Cordovil AntΓ΄nio Nogueira Martins, was arrested for the alleged sexual abuse of four minors, of whom two have been identified as being 10 and 14 years old. The police stated that he used his position in an academic institution, specifically through the university's Practical Legal Center, to approach families who were in vulnerable social and economic situations, using snacks as a means to entice the children. This led to significant concern about the methods used by those in positions of trust to exploit vulnerable youths.
The investigation escalated after information was exchanged between local police and international organizations, revealing that the suspect was storing and producing child pornography linked to his devices. Although authorities have documented at least four cases of abuse, they suspect the existence of additional victims who have not yet been identified, raising alarms about the scale of his predatory behavior and the potential risk to other minors.
In his defense, during police questioning, Martins claimed that the relations were consensual, a statement that contrasts sharply with the gravity of the allegations against him. The case underscores an urgent need for heightened vigilance around child protection and the potential risks that may lurk within educational and community institutions, where trust can be exploited by predators.
