Oyebanji, Fayose rally Ekiti for Tinubu as APC gains PDP defectors
Ekiti State political leaders Biodun Oyebanji and Ayodele Fayose mobilized support for President Bola Tinubu's re-election, highlighting his achievements and encouraging defections from the PDP to the APC during a rally.
At a political rally in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State governor Biodun Oyebanji and former governor Ayodele Fayose urged the people of Ekiti to support President Bola Tinubu for his re-election ahead of the January 2027 presidential election. Both leaders acknowledged that Tinubu's leadership has positively impacted development in the region, implying that continuity in his presidency could enhance ongoing economic reforms and growth within the state and Nigeria as a whole.
During the event, they welcomed the defection of Henrich Akomolafe, a former Peoples Democratic Party candidate, along with his supporters to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This strategic shift highlights the APC's growing influence in the region while also showcasing the party's efforts to consolidate support by attracting significant figures from rival parties. Oyebanji emphasized the importance of rallying the Ekiti electorate, advocating for a target of 600,000 votes in support of Tinubu's bid for a second term.
The rally reflects a broader political strategy as the APC prepares for the upcoming governorship election in June. With the outgoing administration focusing on economic reforms, both Oyebanji and Fayose's support is intended to mobilize party loyalists and undecided voters, reinforcing the presence of the APC in Ekiti State as they aim to build a strong coalition that would ensure victory for both Tinubu and the APC in future elections.
