The Benue Government has started the resettlement process for victims of the Yelewata attacks that occurred in June 2025, supported by substantial donations.
The Benue State Government has officially initiated the resettlement of victims affected by the Yelewata attacks that took place in June 2025. This announcement was made by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Deborah Aber, during a press conference held in Makurdi. She indicated that the resettlement process aims to help Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) return to their homes, signifying a step towards recovery following the violent incidents.
Mrs. Aber also shared details about the financial contributions received by the government, amounting to a total of N1.27 billion from various donors. The roster of donors includes prominent figures such as Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, the Nasarawa State Government, the United Bank for Africa, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS). These donations are intended to support not only the Yelewata victims but all victims of violent attacks within the state, underscoring a broad commitment to aid those affected by such crises.
The governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, established a Technical Committee to oversee the appropriate allocation and utilization of these funds, which Aber reported has made significant progress, fulfilling over 85 percent of its mandate. This development highlights ongoing governmental efforts to address the humanitarian challenges facing IDPs in the region and facilitate their reintegration into society after troubled times.
