Thursday will feel like spring, says meteorologist Matti Huutonen
Temperatures in Central and Northern Finland are expected to drop below freezing tonight, but warmer weather is forecasted due to a low-pressure area approaching from the west.
Finnish meteorologist Matti Huutonen has reported that much of the country, especially Central and Northern Finland, will experience sub-zero temperatures tonight. In the south, temperatures could drop to around -10 degrees Celsius, while Northern Finland may see it drop even further to near -20 degrees. However, this cold spell is temporary, as a low-pressure system moving in from the west is expected to bring warmer weather throughout the day tomorrow.
As the low-pressure front progresses, widespread precipitation is anticipated, with snowfall in Lapland and mixed rain-snow conditions in the central parts of the country. Huutonen warns that driving conditions will deteriorate in Eastern and Northern Finland as snow moves eastward across the country. Another wave of precipitation is expected to arrive on Wednesday, contributing to the changing weather conditions across Finland.
Looking ahead to Thursday and Friday, westerly and southwesterly winds are predicted to usher in much warmer air, leading to temperatures surpassing zero degree Celsius across much of Lapland and reaching as high as +7 degrees in the southern regions. Huutonen suggests that Thursday will give a distinct feeling of spring, with no significant cold snap in sight for the immediate future.
