'Inappropriate behavior' and assaults: rape suspects already faced other processes at Pedro II before the crime
Two young men suspected in a gang rape case in Copacabana had previously faced disciplinary actions for inappropriate behavior at their school.
Two young men, Vitor Hugo Oliveira Simonin (18) and a 17-year-old juvenile, implicated in a gang rape case involving a minor in Copacabana, had a history of disciplinary issues at the prestigious Colégio Pedro II. The school had previously issued warnings and suspensions due to inappropriate behavior, and both students are now subject to an internal disciplinary process for assaults that occurred within the educational institution. This incident has raised serious concerns about the oversight and accountability of students within educational settings.
On the 1st of the month, the College's administration announced the initiation of an administrative process aimed at expelling the two students due to their involvement in the crime. In total, four men have been indicted for collective rape, namely Vitor Hugo Oliveira Simonin, Bruno Felipe dos Santos Allegretti (18), João Gabriel Xavier Bertho (19), and Mattheus Verissimo Zoel Martins (19). The authorities have also released a wanted poster featuring the four individuals, indicating the seriousness of the allegations against them.
This troubling case sheds light on broader issues regarding student behavior and institutional responses in Brazilian schools. The Colégio Pedro II, known for its long-standing reputation in education, may face heightened scrutiny regarding its handling of such incidents, especially given the tragic implications surrounding sexual violence. As the legal process unfolds, it is crucial to examine the preventive measures educational institutions should implement to safeguard students and ensure a safe environment for academic achievement.
