Heavy rains and thunderstorms have led to significant flooding and landslides in Esmeraldas province, Ecuador, causing numerous emergencies and disruptions.
On Monday morning, Esmeraldas province in Ecuador experienced severe weather with heavy rains and accompanying thunderstorms, resulting in over ten emergency incidents related to flooding, collapsed drainage systems, and landslides. The Integrated Security Service ECU 911 reported that as of 7:00 AM, significant incidents were recorded in the cantons of Esmeraldas, Rioverde, and Eloy Alfaro where heavy rainfall has led to waterlogging in homes, road damages, and issues with the sewer system.
In the provincial capital, Esmeraldas City, reports indicate blocked drains in the area of Parada 9, and numerous homes were inundated in various districts including Bajada del Multiplaza, 15 de Marzo, La Florida, Gatazo, Guacharaca, Codesa, and 24 de Mayo. The terminal terrestre (bus terminal) also suffered from water and mud accumulation, prompting the temporary suspension of passenger entry and ticket services.
