Lithuanians are not thanked at work: a wave of gratitude is being initiated in the country
A new social initiative called "Kudos Wave" is being launched in Lithuania to address the lack of gratitude expressed in the workplace, highlighting the need for appreciation in employee engagement.
In Lithuania, employee engagement platform "MELP" is initiating a social challenge titled "Kudos Wave," aimed at reducing the gap between employee expectations and reality in terms of workplace recognition. This initiative underscores the cultural tendency to withhold acknowledgment, as only about 10% of workers in Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia report hearing thanks from their employers at least once a week. The term 'kudos,' derived from Greek, signifies praise or recognition, reflecting the essence of the challenge by encouraging a culture of gratitude in professional settings.
Recent surveys reveal a significant disparity between employees' perception of the importance of gratitude and their actual experiences in the workplace. When asked to rate how gratitude impacts their emotional well-being and motivation on a scale from 1 to 10, only a small percentage of respondents across the region rated its significance highly, with 25% of Lithuanians recognizing its importance with a score of 10. This positive perception contrasts sharply with the low frequency of gratitude expressed, indicating a critical need for change in workplace dynamics.
The challenge also highlights the shared responsibility for fostering a culture of appreciation, not just among employers but also among colleagues. As the campaign unfolds, it may serve to empower employees to advocate for a more supportive work atmosphere, ultimately benefiting overall morale and productivity in the region. By addressing these issues, "Kudos Wave" aims to cultivate an environment where recognition is a regular practice rather than an exception, transforming workplace culture in Lithuania and potentially inspiring similar movements in neighboring countries.
