The government will award achievements in sports
The Lithuanian government has approved a program to award sports achievements to citizens who contribute to the country's image and recognition in sports.
This week, Lithuania's cabinet confirmed the procedure for awarding achievements in sports, allowing Lithuanian citizens, including athletes and other individuals, to receive accolades for their sporting accomplishments within a calendar year. These awards not only honor individual achievements but also aim to enhance Lithuania's positive image in the sports arena on a global scale. The awards will reinforce the visibility of Lithuania's name internationally through these recipients' successes.
The awards can be either monetary, reaching up to 130 basic social allowances (approximately 9,600 euros), or non-monetary, such as a certificate, diploma, commemorative badge, or keepsake. The financial resources for these awards will be allocated from the budgets of the Government Chancellery or the Ministry of Education, Science, and Sports, depending on available funding. This initiative can significantly motivate athletes and other contributors to achieve excellence in their respective sports fields.
The Prime Minister will be responsible for awarding these honors, while the Minister of Education, Science, and Sports will present a motivated proposal regarding the allocation of awards' form, size, and funding source. This structured approach highlights the Lithuanian government’s commitment to fostering a culture of excellence in sports and rewarding those who bring honor and recognition to the nation.
