Pharmacist’s recipe for great well-being: sometimes it works better than an additional dose of medication
A Lithuanian pharmacist highlights the importance of lifestyle changes for health improvement, which can sometimes be more effective than medication.
In a recent statement, pharmacist Lina Stočkutė-Plytnikė from 'Gintarinės vaistinės' emphasizes that patients often try to manage their health issues on their own for prolonged periods before seeking professional help. She recounts a specific case of a 40-year-old man who regularly purchased ointments for neck discomfort, initially attributed to tension from computer work. However, the recurring numbness in his left hand and nighttime heart palpitations raised red flags about his health condition.
Upon referral for medical evaluation, it was discovered that he was suffering from a herniated disc in his neck, which was pressing on a nerve and causing neurological symptoms. This case exemplifies the need for timely medical consultation rather than relying solely on over-the-counter remedies, reinforcing the idea that persistent symptoms could be signs of more serious underlying issues.
Additionally, Stočkutė-Plytnikė suggests that lifestyle changes play a significant role in improving well-being, often being just as important as pharmaceuticals. She advocates for a holistic approach to health, where lifestyle adjustments—such as exercise and dietary changes—are considered alongside conventional treatments to promote overall health and prevent future complications.
