The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration warns drivers. They will "automatically lose their driving license" for this infringement
Poland's Ministry of Internal Affairs announced new traffic regulations that will result in automatic license revocation for drivers exceeding speed limits significantly.
The Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration has issued a press release regarding significant changes to traffic regulations aimed at curbing reckless driving. As of March 3, 2026, drivers who exceed the speed limit by 50 kilometers per hour on dual carriageways in non-built-up areas will have their driving licenses automatically revoked by the police. This marks a shift from the previous rules, where license losses were primarily enforced in built-up areas. The ministry emphasized that this change is aimed at improving road safety and reducing traffic fatalities.
In addition to the enforcement of new speed regulations, the announcement also addresses driving laws for young drivers in Poland. Starting from March 3, young individuals will be eligible to apply for a category B driving license at the age of 17, though they will need to drive under the supervision of an experienced driver until they turn 18. Furthermore, there is a proposal to allow some 16-year-olds, specifically those who reach 16 years and 9 months, to undertake certain driving courses, reflecting a potential shift in how young people engage with driving education and licensing.
These changes highlight the Polish government's commitment to enhancing road safety and adapting licensing requirements for a new generation of drivers. With the automatic revocation of licenses for severe speeding violations and the introduction of new opportunities for young drivers, authorities hope to foster more responsible driving behavior and decrease the number of traffic-related incidents as the laws come into effect over the next few years.
