From March 3, major changes for drivers. A new reason for revoking a driver's license will be introduced

New regulations in Poland will lower the minimum age for obtaining a category B driver's license to 17, subjecting young drivers to new restrictions.

Starting March 3, new amendments to Poland's Road Traffic Law will allow individuals who are 17 years old to obtain a category B driver's license, a change from the current requirement of 18 years. However, these young drivers will face several restrictions aimed at ensuring their safety on the road. For the first six months or until they turn 18, they must not drive alone and must be accompanied by a so-called mentor passenger—an experienced driver aged at least 25 who has held a category B license for at least five years.

In addition to the mentorship requirement, drivers who obtain their license at 17 will face further limitations. They will not be permitted to drive taxis or engage in occasional transport services, and their driving privileges will be restricted to Poland only. This move reflects a broader attempt to regulate young drivers and ensure their gradual acclimatization to driving through structured oversight.

A probationary period will also be instituted for all new drivers, with those over 18 facing a two-year probation, while 17-year-olds will face a three-year probation. During this period, specific consequences for traffic violations could affect their driving privileges, emphasizing the importance of safe driving practices among younger drivers in Poland.
