Famous Poles trapped in the Middle East. 'Explosions can be heard all the time'
Polish citizens, including prominent athletes and journalists, are currently trapped in the Middle East amid escalating conflicts following a US and Israeli attack on Iran.
The recent military action by the United States and Israel against Iran has triggered a new full-scale war in the Middle East, prompting serious safety concerns for multiple Polish citizens caught in the region. Notably, Olympic hammer thrower Anita Włodarczyk and journalist Michał Samulski have found themselves in the midst of this conflict, which has intensified dramatically after the February 24 attack. The situation surrounding the conflict is alarming, especially for those in affected areas where bombs and debris are falling.
Michał Samulski, who is currently in Dubai, spoke to TVN24 about his troubling experience. He mentioned that he had planned to return to Warsaw with his family on Saturday; however, due to the escalating violence, their flight was redirected and the airport was closed for security reasons. Samulski conveyed the uncertainty of their situation, suggesting that even if flights were to resume, the compromised conditions at the airport make it hard to predict their departure. He reported that the airport has sustained some damage, further complicating their ability to leave the volatile area.
This incident underscores the potential risks faced by citizens abroad during international conflicts, highlighting the importance of government advisories and safety measures for overseas travelers. As the situation continues to unfold, the well-being of those stranded remains paramount, raising questions about evacuation strategies and international responses to the crisis affecting both the region and its foreign nationals.
