Guayas Prefect Alerts to Increased Flows at the Daule-Peripa Reservoir
The prefect of Guayas, Marcela Aguiñaga, has raised concerns about the increasing flows into the Daule-Peripa reservoir as of March 1.
Marcela Aguiñaga, the prefect of Guayas, has issued a warning regarding the rising water inflows into the Daule-Peripa reservoir. As reported on her social media account, the average inflow rate recorded around 11:00 AM on March 1 was 1,028.61 cubic meters per second, a significant increase from the 393.73 cubic meters per second average over the past 24 hours. This uptick in water levels poses potential risks, necessitating close monitoring by local authorities.
Aguiñaga emphasized the importance of vigilance as the increased flows could lead to controlled discharges from the reservoir. She stated that her office is coordinating with relevant entities to ensure a prompt response should such measures become necessary. The prefect's proactive stance reflects the local government's commitment to public safety, particularly in light of seasonal weather patterns that could exacerbate water levels.
The situation at the reservoir is critical for the surrounding communities, as excessive water retention could lead to flooding and related disasters. Continuous surveillance and coordination among government departments are essential to mitigate potential impacts and safeguard the residents of Guayas during this critical period.
