Due to rains, the Prefecture monitors the level of the Daule-Peripa reservoir: 'We have not been reported that controlled discharges have begun'
Ongoing heavy rains in Ecuador's Guayas province have led to numerous emergency reports, prompting local authorities to monitor the Daule-Peripa reservoir's levels closely.
Ecuador's Guayas province is experiencing significant issues due to continuous heavy rainfall, resulting in 163 reported adverse events and the declaration of a red alert by the National Risk Management Secretariat (SNGR). Since the beginning of the year, there have been nearly 2,000 affected individuals, with hundreds of homes damaged and several fatalities reported. The severity of the rainfall has raised concerns about flooding and landslides across local communities.
In response to the ongoing weather conditions, the Guayas Prefecture, under the leadership of Prefect Marcela Aguiñaga, is actively monitoring the Daule-Peripa reservoir to manage the water levels. The reservoir plays a crucial role in storing excess water during the winter months and releasing it during the dry season to supply the river basin. Authorities have reported a significant increase in the reservoir's levels, raising alarms about potential flooding if controlled releases do not begin promptly.
The situation remains critical as technicians from the Prefecture continue to assess the hydraulic situation of the reservoir, emphasizing the importance of preemptive measures in mitigating flooding risks. As local residents endure adverse conditions, the focus on public safety and infrastructure resilience will be paramount in the upcoming days, especially if rainfall persists and more emergency reports come in from the affected areas.
