Thessaloniki: The 'accountant' recorded the jewelry
A 20-year-old woman has been arrested in Thessaloniki for involvement in a series of fraud cases targeting elderly citizens by posing as an accountant.
In Thessaloniki, police arrested a 20-year-old woman who is accused of being involved in at least four instances of fraud against elderly individuals. The arrest was part of a swift operational response from the Crime Prevention and Investigation Department of Charilaou-Analipsi, which had formed a specialized team to investigate deception cases affecting local citizens. The suspect, who is a foreign national, faces serious charges which include organized criminal fraud and conspiracy.
The investigation revealed that the woman, alongside accomplices unknown to the authorities, had approached elderly residents by posing as accountants. They convinced the victims that it was necessary for an assistant to visit their homes in order to record the total amount of jewelry the residents owned. This pretext allowed the alleged perpetrator to enter the homes of the unsuspecting elderly individuals.
During the visits, she would meticulously record the jewelry and subsequently steal it before leaving the premises. These criminal acts were carried out over a short period, specifically between January 13 and February 27, raising concerns over the targeting of vulnerable groups within the community. Law enforcement reinforces its commitment to tackling such scams and protecting the elderly population from fraud.
