A 36-year-old man was arrested in Thessaloniki for allegedly committing multiple burglaries totaling 155,000 euros over the past ten months.
A 36-year-old man has been arrested by police in Thessaloniki after being caught in the act of attempting to break into two apartments in the suburb of Kalamaria. This suspect has a reputation for a series of burglaries spanning the last ten months, during which he is believed to have stolen an estimated 155,000 euros worth of valuables including 114 English gold sovereigns, jewelry, cash, and various electronic appliances. The police reported that he attempted at least eight burglaries, with one other attempted break-in.
Upon his arrest early Wednesday morning, it was revealed that the Georgian national was also living illegally in Greece. The apprehension of this suspect highlights ongoing issues with illegal immigration and crime in the area, as law enforcement continues to address escalating concerns about burglary incidents in urban neighborhoods.
The police confiscated several burglary tools from him, including lock-picking devices, key-cutting materials, and sophisticated equipment used for breaking into security doors. This case not only underscores the persistent challenges of property crime in Thessaloniki but also raises questions about how authorities are managing illegal activities involving individuals residing unlawfully in the country.
