D Day: Campaign promotes mobilizations and educational actions against dengue in 37 cities in the Ribeirão Preto and Franca region
A campaign against dengue mobilized communities and health teams in 37 cities in the Ribeirão Preto and Franca regions of Brazil.
The 'D Day' initiative, part of the EPTV and You, Together Against Dengue campaign, saw residents and health teams come together in 37 municipalities of the Ribeirão Preto and Franca regions to tackle the dengue fever issue. This campaign, run by EPTV, a Globo television affiliate, along with local city halls, involved simultaneous actions to combat the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which transmits the disease. During the mobilization, activities included cleaning drives, educational actions, and efforts to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds.
The activities focused on predetermined neighborhoods and involved house-to-house visits, collection of items that can hold water, and direct guidance to the population on preventative measures. The campaign's comprehensive approach reached a total of 202 municipalities across four regions covered by the television station, highlighting the local government's commitment to public health amid rising dengue cases.
The campaign is especially timely given the upcoming summer season in Brazil, characterized by high temperatures and regular rainfall, which create ideal breeding conditions for the dengue mosquito. By raising public awareness and increasing community participation, the initiative aims to significantly reduce the risk of dengue transmission, ultimately protecting the health of local residents during a vulnerable period for the disease.
